We arrived here late in the afternoon after tasting wines all day. The lady running the sales area, Guesippina, greeted us at first by saying that they were expecting a party of guests, and had no time. Armin Doerr convinced her to let us stay and she soon warmed up to us. Noticing that I was taking notes, on each wine, she asked me if I was a journalist or writer. I guess she realised that we were going to buy, and started ordering the celler master to open up bottles for us to try. I picked out a bottle of 1980 Chianti Classico from a box that they had found in there cellars. It was a "buyer risk" situation. It might be good or it might be bad! She brought us some absolutely delicious tomatos on bread, smeared with the vinyards own olive oil. A great end to a great day!
19.01.2008 - Tried the last bottle with Mike. The boquet is a nice balance of soft ripe dark berries with spice. Perhaps a little bit of moist twigs, but quite pleasant. The fruit tastes rich but is not sweet. Coarse and fairly strong tanins and fairly forceful acid. This has a tiny oxidised note which tells me it is at the very end of its storage life.
