First impression - Smells like this wine has died a grim death. After a few minutes it got a bit more interesting, you could make out the blackberry notes in the background. In the mouth, quite sour, with a hint of oxidation. Barnyard. Flat fruit. It might be a defect from the original winemaking. I've had others with that barnyard like, wet hay, taste.
Still excellent despite its age. Excellent aromas of charcoal, tobacco, licorice and dark berries. In the mouth it has softened with age. Tannins and acid are soft and mellow. Nice long complex finish. There is a tiny hint of oxidization, so it was definitely time to drink this wine. It is one of the batch of old wines I bought from Dio at sensationally low prices. On day two this wine tastes great, no more hint of defect at all.
