Deep inky red purple. Well ripened warm spicy dark cherries. There's a bit of cut grass that was mown a few days ago. (This is maybe the aroma of fresh oak barrels). Even a touch of citrus, like orange. On the palate you get smooth rich fruits with spiky acid and rough strong tannins. Very long finish. This wine needs more time. It's great now but could last much longer. This is a nice complex wine.

The 2003 Meandro is an intensely flavored blend of young Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, and Tinta Roriz, the latter, being the principal varietal of the blend. The wine, which has a somewhat rustic character, is dark purple opaque and offers dark cherry fruit, black pepper, and new oak notes on the palate. This fresh and lively wine will get better in the bottle.

An intense kirschlike aroma is followed by pure flavors of dark cherry and blackberry, with loads of mineral and spice. Refined and powerful, with a long, long finish of iron and hot stone. Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, Touriga Franca and Tinta Barroca. Drink now through 2012. 5,830 cases made.

Portuguese wines bring the best of Old & New World; COLOR-fantastic, really dark; NOSE-extraordinary, extreme black licorice, really dark, nice floral aspects, hints of cinnamon; TASTE-strawberries & dark cherries, but HUGE tannins on the back, this wine will age for a long time (at least 15 years, complex fruit on the back to end (dark cassis & hints of chalk) lot of New World explosion, but very Old World structure, not a fruit bomb, it's very complete, mid-palette is pure, tannins are sharp, really strong wine, a little heat, but that goes away quickly to a nice velvety finish, hint of asparagus on the finish, very well made, should be put away
