Dark ruby red. Interesting complex nose. Anchovies, exploded fireworks, rich well ripened dark cherry, rasberry and creaming soda. There's a lot going on in this wine. In the mouth you are greeted by a medium bodied drop, but more intense than the Poggio. Fruits are full flavoured, strong acids and fine to medium grained tannins. A hint of beef stock cube. Long but straightforward finish. This is a wine that doesn't want the competition of food. Drink now or in one to two years.

Located on the southeast side of Montepulciano adjacent to the ancient Madonna di San Biagio church, you will find the small producer Canneto. Under the gentle guiding hand of Ottorino de Angelis, Canneto has been producing big, wonderful Nobile wines since 1970. Each year they produce superb Nobile normale and riserva wines, the young and immediately drinkable Rosso di Montepulciano, and a late harvest sweet wine called Vendemmia Tardiva.

Regarding Montepulciano:
DOC located in the hilly area around the town of Montepulciano, southeast of Siena in the eastern portion of Italy's TUSCANY region. Its designated zone is precisely the same as the one for VINO NOBILE DI MONTEPULCIANO DOCG. The exact same grapes are used as well-60 to 80 percent Prugnolo (SANGIOVESE), 10 to 20 percent CANAIOLO, and up to 20 percent of other varieties, although no more than 10 percent white grapes. One of the other red varieties most often used is the Mammolo, which contributes the fragrance of violets to the BOUQUET. The AGING requirement is only 1 year instead of the 2 years required for Vino Nobile di Montepulciano wines. The result is that Rosso di Montepulciano wines are fruitier, less intense mimics of their big brothers.
