Dark to deep red brown - cloudy. pepper and spice. Rich, tangy ripe blackberry. Elegant tanins and nice acid. Long and well balanced. This one goes in the wine tasting. Not too pushy but full of flavour and complexity.

The bouquet of wine is locked up tight and didn’t show much at all. Deep strong fruit provides the stuffing for this full bodied wine that is well supported by smooth unobtrusive tannins and balanced acid. The wine has a great flavour profile (for a Grenache) with no lolly characteristics, far from it; the flavours are savoury plum, chocolate, cherry and long lingering liquorice. This is a very good Grenache and one of the few I could recommend buying. The consistency is supple, structure almost seamless and the complexity agreeable but harmonious. 01.08.2003

Kevin Mitchell, who has a knack for working with many different varietals, has mastered the fickle Grenache grape as evidenced by the 2003 Grenache Prodigal, a 100% Grenache from 46- to 60-year-old vineyards that was aged two years in old French and American wood prior to being bottled unfiltered. It boasts fabulous Grenache characteristics of melted licorice intermixed with pepper, kirsch liqueur, and raspberries. This rich, full-bodied, opulent offering tastes like a Pinot Noir on steroids.

Very deep in colour for a grenache - deep cherry, almost plummy colour. Intense on the nose with lots of raspberry and blackberry fruit - hints of smoke and herbs, very nice. Really well balanced, sweet and ripe without being cloying in any way - good structure with soft tannin and juicy acidity. An excellent drop.

Thick purple/dark red in the glass, with a lighter rim. The nose is dominated by dry plum, hints of blackberries and black currant also noticeable. Medium to full bodied, the mid palate is also dominated by dry plum and blackberries + some dark cherry. Wonderful fruity and intesive finish - def. the best grenache I've ever had in the glass! A shure 91-92 shot!
