Deep Red, inky at the center. Rich ripe licorice and dark black berries. Good Oak. Tobacco. Strong dark fruits, good ripeness. Long finish. Better tannins than the Grant Burge. Puckery acid at the end. A very nice Shiraz. Not quite as good a value for money as say the Grant Burge, but definitely a good ambassador of aussie Shiraz. Can be cellared.
Deep purple-red with a bright crimson tint. A complex nose displaying ripe berry fruit, black cherry, cloves and a touch of incense combine with well-integrated vanilla oak. The palate is rich and round with a combination of sweetly ripened fruit, white pepper and allspice/fruit cake characters. The flavour is sustained and the finish has firm, smooth tannins, which are balanced by the fruit intensity. The wine shows all the hallmarks of fine Shiraz from possibly Australia's pre-eminent Shiraz region. GIven good cellaring the 2002 Shiraz will drink extremely well over the next 8-10 years.
