Clear dark red purple. To begin with the nose was quite closed and smells like cooked squash. After about 40 minutes opened up to present typical peppery dark berry aromas. In the mouth you notice slightly bitter underripe blackberry. The tannins are strong and fine. Like the 05 this too young and out of balance at the moment.

Deep red purple with a fairly inky centre. Spicy well ripened dark berry fruit. Licorice. Strong pushy fruits, tangy acids, mild fine tanins. Long with the ripe fruit dominating. Perhaps a litte simple, but very nice. It is a wine that strives to dominate so it needs a good strong partner in the food department.

This wine is deep purple red in colour with the nose showing initial aromas of violets and sweet berry fruits, messed with the subtle fragrance of apricot and musk. The palate is stylish and approachable, showing sweet berry mid palate fruits with a soft even texture and fine tannin finish. 01.01.2006

Dark ruby red. Still closed. dark berries. Hints of spice and licorice. Will be better tomorrow. Smooth and chewy toasted ripe and jucy berries, very acidic. tannins give a small punch up front, then fade. Good balance, but still young with stong tannins and acid up front, but nicely ripe dark fruits waiting in the background. This should improve in a couple of years.

Notes
Alcohol: 14%
This wine is made from Barossa Shiraz grown on 30-50 year old vines and 5% Viognier a rare and exotic grape variety that enhances the colour and adds a sweet floral fragrance.
Liquorice, dark cherry, plum

Winter rains promised a good start to the 04/05 growing season. An excellent mild spring and summer provided an even and long ripening period, resulting in red wines with excellent fruit flavour and richness.

Yalumba Y Series Shiraz Viognier 2005 showcases the excellent varietal characters of these two grape varieties, co-fermented to capture their synergy.
