Inky red, with light rust notes and distinct legs from the alcohol. As you would expect, there are rich blackberry and pepper notes, but also a slight musty note. Luscious toasted blackberry with nice tart acids. Fine, unimposing tannins. Medium finish dominated by fruit. If you like rich full fruity wines without complexity then this is for you.

Ruby-red color. Youthful aromas of crushed blackberry, blackcurrant and cherry preserves. Fat, unctuous and sweet, the dark berry flavors taking on an almost confectionery quality, with nary an earth or herb tone to be found. Like liquefied black raspberry jam on the finish, with a velvety texture and a total absence of rough edges. Very good value.

Rich deep purple red tones. Strong black currant, fruity, pepper & spices. nice juicy fruits but not overly sweet. no tanins. medium to long finish, bitter taste at the end. A nice shiraz. I'll wait until it is warmer for a final judgment. It is not as good as the Yalumba.

Deep red-purple colour, spicy, ripe peppery mulberry and blackberry aromas. Richer chocolate, stewed plum mint and spicy, cedary pepper smells and often cinnamon follow the initial attack of primary fruit characters. On the palate terrific fruit and oak tannin provides great texture to support plum, blackcurrant and rolling blackberry flavours, especially on the mid-palate. Dark chocolate characters are quite evident too. This is followed by a traditional, long, velvety, fine grained tannin finish.

Vintage:
After excellent winter rains and then a warm, wet spring the vineyards were set for a good start to vintage. Flowering was consistent, for the first time
crop sizes looked more normal than previous years. We experienced the coldest January for 12 years followed by a warm to hot February and mild March which carried on into April to eventually become a very long Indian summer due to the mild autumn weather. The vineyards maintained good levels of vigour while supporting an adequate level of green leaves in the
canopy right through to harvest. At the point of harvesting berry size was small with excellent levels of fragrance and varying flavour profiles balanced with ripe long gritty tannins.

Winemaking:
Our traditional winemaking methods of gently crushing the fruit then fermenting the wine with the cap submerged in our open fermenters was utilized for The 2004 Footbolt Shiraz. Once fermentation is complete; the wine undertakes a very soft pressing in our basket presses to produce
highly clarified juice without filtering or fining. This gentle process maximises the wonderful characters of McLaren Vale Shiraz.
