I expected this would be corked, but it wasn’t. It is still good, but probably past its prime. It has lost too much fruit, and the tannins should have reduced more. Nevertheless it is a nice old lady improving greatly on the second day of tasting, with stronger fruits. Best suited to cheese after a meal, sitting by the fireplace. Tawny brown, quite clear, showing its age. Beautiful silky appeal. Subdued very ripe toasted cherries. Spicy vanilla licorice note. Bitter & tannic at the front, with oaky toasted berries in the background. Sot overly fruity. Much better on Day 2. Now round and not bitter, with strong complex berries. Extremly long, full tannin, with rich berries at the back of the throat. Very long, with balanced tannin, puckering up at the end.
